The Setting:
The setting to Yuyu Hakusho is in present-day Japan. The setting isn't that important, thought, because the characters move around.

The Point of View:
The point of view in these volumes is third person omniscient. You see views from Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei. it changes depending on the current scene in the story.

A Brief Synopsis:
Yusuke Yurameshi is a teenage rebel who enjoys escaping from trouble. When he was skipping school one day, he het his unforseen death when he saved a small child from being hit by a car.Yusuke then meets Botan, a spirit guide, who sxplains that because no one, even in the spirit world, saw his death coming, that he will have one chance to come back to life. Will Yusuke follow the rules and return to his life on earth? Find out in Yuyu Hakusho, Volumes one through three.

Main Characters:
Yusuke (YOOS-kay) Yurameshi (protaganist)
- Yusuke is a 14-year-old delinquent who does almost everything but go to school. In his time, he enjoys gambling, fighting, and making frun of his childhood friend, Keiko Yukimura.
Keiko (KAY-koh) Yukimura (protagonist) - Keiko is Yusuke's childhood friend who fries to get him to stay in school and obey the rules. She is Yusuke's closest friend.
Kazuma Kuwabara (protagonist) - Kuwabara is a classmate of Yusuke and Keiko who holds Yusuke as his archrival. He enjoys the things similar to those of Yusuke.
Botan (BOH-tahn) (protagonist) - Botan is the wpirit guide that met Yusuke after his untimely death. She explains the underworld rules and what he must do to come back to life.
Goki (GOH-kee), Kurama (kuh-RAH-mah), and Hiei (HEE-ay) (antagonists) - These are demons that come to steal underworld treasures. The are strong, greedy, and will do all they can to prevail in their plans.


Character Conflicts in the story:
Yusuke versus Fate - Yusuke dies saving a child. The resolve of this conflict would give the end away.
Yusuke versus Keiko - Keiko tries to keep Yusuke in school. He just skips school anyway.
Yusuke versus Kuwabara - They enjoy fighting each other, but Yusuke always wins.
Yusuke versus Society - Yusuke defies teachers and laws. This conflict is not resolved.


Theme:
The theme in this story is that you can't judge someone before you know them. It is shown in the story with the protagonists. It is their decision to bring Yusuke back to life, and that is what shows the theme in this story.
